The 2013-2014 season was Lokahi's second full Aloha Region junior season, with most of the girls from the previous season's successful 12U teams returning, the majority of them as 13U. Because the Region did not host 13U tournaments and because a few girls who played 14U the previous season also returned, our Junior teams played in 14U tournaments. Though we also had girls who could play 16U or 18U, they and their coaches opted to play in adult tournaments so they are not featured on this site which is dedicated to our junior teams.
Both 14U teams competed hard during the local tournament season with good success, then capped off the season by travelling to Phoenix, Arizona to play in the Volleyball Festival. There, our girls competed well in their first-ever mainland tournament, in a large venue with multiple courts, against tall and spirited opponents. In addition to the volleyball learning experience, they also gained a broader understanding of the United States beyond Hawaii, with visits to the Grand Canyon, Route 66, and the surrounding Phoenix area.
The 2014 Lokahi 14U Red Team was comprised of the nucleus of the previous season's 12U Red Team. This group of girls from diverse backgrounds and schools retained the outstanding team chemistry that contributed to their 12U season's success and they welcomed and successfully integrated the newcomers to the team.
The 14U Red Team enjoyed much success in 2014 even with all but one player being 13U. They showed a good grasp of Mr. P's system of play, competing for the championship of eight of the ten tournaments they played, winning the championship four times and finishing second four times. The Team finished third in the Silver bracket their first time playing in the 14U Regional Championships and we look forward to returning to the coming season's 14U Regionals, when our girls will actually be 14U.
The Team ended the 2014 season by travelling to Phoenix to play in the Volleyball Festival, where they won the Commendation Division. Several onlookers complimented the Team on their amazing play and competitiveness despite their relatively dimunitive size, a testament to the girls' spirit and Mr. P's system.
Mahalo to our parents and sponsors for their support in making the 2014 season successful, fun, and rewarding, especially those parents who helped arrange and accompanied us on our travel. I look forward to seeing you all next season!
The 2014 Lokahi 14U Gold team was half comprised of returnees from the previous season's 12U Gold team, with the rest being newcomers. Led by their returnees and 14U members, they played hard and competed despite half the team actually being 12U or younger. They gained much experience for coming seasons.
We would like to thank all the parents for their help and support of their daughters. Thank you especially to the parents that volunteered to be our chaperones and drivers.
Congratulations to the Gold 14U team for making it into the Bronze division in Regionals.
Also, congratulations to the Gold 14U traveling team for taking second place in the Camelot division in the Arizona Festival. It was a hard fought battle in the championship match. We are so proud of all of you in overcoming your adversities and giving the other team a run for their money.
