Fourteen girls and their parents brought about the revival of Huikahi for the 2020 season. With their USAV ages ranging from 11U through 15U, Huikahi intended to field mainly two Teams, a 12U and a 15U, and intended to also combine some of the capable younger players with some of the older players to form a mixed group to play as a 13U Team. Most of these girls were new to volleyball and even those who might have had some experience had never played truly competitive volleyball before. They, without reluctance, were doing the work necessary to learn more and get better when covid shut us down.
Even with our late start following the lifting of covid gym restrictions, several of those girls returned in 2021, along with many newcomers. The greater number of players allows Huikahi to field three Teams. Where appropriate, we can still also field teams of younger players mixed with older players, such as when our 16U Team steps up to play with our lone 17U player. (Go here to see the 2021-2022 USAV age definitions.) Even though most of our players are new to volleyball, their enthusiasm and work ethic are helping them to learn and improve quickly. Along with their supportive and dedicated parents, we hope to develop a true ohana, like in seasons past. We look forward to all players' continued growth and improvement throughout the season.
